This is the obituary from the Sacramento Bee:

"Born in Sacramento September 30, 1942 died October 5, 2000.  Beloved wife of David, loving mother of Jonathan, Christopher, Julie Spapnoll and son-in-law Joseph.  Loving grandmother of Austin and Sarah and daughter of Moreene Sharpless and sister Jananne.  Until her death she was the Acting Chief Deputy Director of the Ca. Dept. of Alcohol and Drug Programs and for eight years she held executive level positions as Deputy Secretary of the Resources Agency, served as a Commissioner of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and a Deputy Director of Department of Water Resources.  She worked in the Ca. State Legislature and was Administrative Assistant to Senator Jim Nielsen.  As a result of her love of water and lure of the Delta she served as Commodore of the Sacramento Bayliner Club.  She was devoted to her Old English Sheepdogs and was President of the Old English Sheepdog Club.  Salle abounded with musical talent and attended Westminister Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.  Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at Westminister Presbyterian Church, 13th & N St. October 15th, 1:00 P.M.  A memorial fund has been set up at Westminister in Salle's name."

Salle, Sharon Ashley and I were close friends at McClatchy. I will always remember Salle's sparkling blue eyes, infectious laugh and love of music. May she rest in peace and make beautiful music wherever she is now.

Julie Porter (Strong)

Sally and I grew up as neighbors.  We were in Blue Birds and Camp Fire girls together and later Job's Daughters.  I have pictures of us in Easter dresses, dance recital costumes, Blue Bird uniforms, Halloween costumes and at each other's birthday parties.

Sally raised three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter whom she named Julie.

Sally was always such a cheerful, fun person. She was taken from us and her family far too soon.

She is greatly missed by so many of us.
